Listen to what Proverbs 4:20-23 has to say.  “My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words.  Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.  Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”  This is one of the most powerful portions of scripture in the whole Bible.  If you only memorize a few scriptures, memorize this one.  If you meditate on this verse and put it to work in your own life it will make a huge difference in how things go for you.  Look also at Proverbs 3:1, “My son do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.”  God’s Word to us is a powerful thing.  It will bring us the things we need and desire in our life.  It brings life (God’s Life) to them who find them, and it will even bring health to our whole body.  That’s physical health to every portion of our natural body.  God’s written Word as recorded in the Bible is alive.  The written word in a novel or a newspaper is dead words.  Not saying they are not important, but they do not have within themselves the power to make a supernatural impact on your life and circumstances.

The Word has the life of our Heavenly Father resident in it.  If believed and acted on it will make miraculous things come to pass in your world.  Our two scriptures tell us if the Word is part of our life, it will bring health, long life, and prosperity to us.  There are many more very important things that the Word believed will bring to us, but this is a short teaching; however they are easy to find if you spend time in your Bible.

How do I get this working in my life?  We must believe the Word, act like it is true, that is, and do what it tells us to do.  In this teaching I want to focus on the most important and first step in getting this working for us.

In verse 4:23 it starts out saying “Above all else.”    It is most important; if we don’t do anything else do this.  The most important thing is to guard your heart.  Well how do I do this?  We must guard the entrance to our heart, much like we guard the entrance to our house from intruders.  The main entrance into your heart is the things you see, read, watch, hear, and the people you run with.  Let’s look at each of these.

See:  Don’t look at things a born again Christian should not look at.  If your neighbor’s wife walks around in their back yard in a bikini, you shouldn’t look.  You might say that’s hard to do in this modern age.  I’m not saying it is easy, but no one ever committed adultery without first thinking about it and picturing the act in your mind.

Read: Don’t read immoral, books and magazines.  Don’t read anything that brings doubt into your mind about the things of God.  Don’t read about violence that goes into much detail.

Watch: This is big in our world today.  Don’t watch movies, T.V. etc that have nudity, sex acts, violence, or anything else that is against God’s Word.

Hear: Don’t listen to music that is glorifying anything that is against the things we believe in.  Such as Cop hating, lewd things, hate, etc.

People we hang out with: If we run with ungodly people they will drag us down.

Phil. 4:8 tells us “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy---meditate on these things.”

Think on these things!  Above all else, think on these things.  This is how we guard our heart, we think on good things.  Don’t think on the devils trash; think on the good things of God.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the truth of His Word be with you.
